Montclair, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology softball team dropped a doubleheader on the road at Montclair State on Thursday, falling 8-0 in the first game and 4-3 in the second.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1
Montclair State put four on the board in the first inning, putting Stevens in an early hole.
After putting the leadoff hitter on second in the first, the Ducks had two on with one out in the second, but again came away empty-handed.
15 of 16 hitters were retired between the top of the third and the top of the fifth before Montclair put four more on the board in the bottom of the fifth, sealing the run-rule win.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2
With one out in the Stevens’ first, Allison Mitloff walked, then scored on a Carmelita Murphy-Brown double. Murphy-Brown came around to score on a Jessica Hsu single, staking Kyra Fischer an early 2-0 lead. Montclair loaded the bases with no one out in the first, but Fischer escaped relatively unscathed, conceding a lone run.
