Kevin Mandia, the founder of Mandiant, has initiated a new cybersecurity venture named Armadin. According to a report from Yahoo Finance, the company has secured a combined seed and Series A investment totaling $189.9 million.

The funding round was led by Accel and included several other venture capital firms. Armadin asserts this financial commitment sets a record for a security company at such an early phase, though it has not publicized its valuation. While other security startups have secured larger individual Series A rounds, those companies were more established at the time of their funding.

Mandia, a recognized security expert, was previously involved with Ballistic Ventures prior to this new undertaking. He established Armadin to develop autonomous cybersecurity agents, which are software systems intended to operate without constant human oversight. Mandia has expressed concern about the emergence of autonomous AI hackers, a view echoed by some researchers and agencies.

The objective of Armadin is to supply defensive security teams with automated tools to counter potential AI-driven threats. Mandia’s co-founders in the enterprise include several former executives and engineers from Google and Mandiant.
