Cylake, a new cybersecurity startup, just came out of stealth with a huge $45 million seed round. Their goal is to build a next-gen cybersecurity platform for organizations that need serious control over their data and infrastructure. Greylock Partners led the round, and a bunch of well-known tech investors joined in.
Cylake wants to solve a tough problem. Plenty of organizations can’t use public cloud services because of strict regulations, security concerns, or how their operations work. These groups still need advanced protection, and that’s where Cylake steps in.
Veteran Cybersecurity Founders
Cylake was established by three prominent veterans in the field of cybersecurity: Nir Zuk, Wilson Xu, and Ehud (Udi) Shamir. Zuk is known for being the founder and long-time CTO for Palo Alto Networks, one of the largest cybersecurity companies in the world. Xu spent over 10 years at Palo Alto Networks driving engineering teams, while Shamir was a co-founder of the endpoint security company SentinelOne.

With years of experience in the field of Cybersecurity, the founders maintain that there is a large untapped potential in the cybersecurity vertical for the sectors that do not rely on cloud security analytics. “Cybersecurity is always changing, and at times, new problems require new solutions altogether,” Zuk commented. “Cylake is for organizations for which complete control over data and operations is a necessity.”
