Whether you’ve got an Android TV or Google TV streaming device, the home screen is something you see a lot. That’s exactly why it’s stuffed with recommendations and ads. I got tired of all the junk and cleaned things up with a free launcher.

Google TV is the biggest offender, but the Android TV home screen isn’t as clean as it used to be, either. There are tabs for “Live” and “Shop” at the top of the screen, a rotating carousel of recommended content, and a row of buttons for “Free Live TV,” “Top Selling Movies,” “Trending on Google,” etc. The only rows of content that can be customized are underneath all that. We can do better.

Replacing the home screen on Android TV

It’s not only for phones

Everyone knows you can replace the default home screen on Android phones and tablets with a wide variety of third-party options. Lawnchair and Niagara are a couple of popular launchers. This same concept applies to Android TV (and Google TV) as well. There aren’t as many to choose from, but there’s one that I really like.
