WASHINGTON, D.C. (WVVA) – The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee passed the Health Care Cybersecurity and Resilience Act, bipartisan legislation introduced by U.S. Senator Mark Warner and Committee Chair Sen. Bill Cassidy.
The bill aims to strengthen cyber defenses across the nation’s health care system, protect patient data and support providers responding to cyberattacks.
Cyberattacks on our health care system don’t just compromise data – they can disrupt care, delay treatments, and put lives at risk.
This bipartisan legislation takes important steps to strengthen our cyber defenses and ensure that providers – especially those in rural and underserved communities – have the tools they need to protect patients.
The legislation provides grants to improve cyberattack prevention, offers training on best practices, supports rural providers and requires better coordination between federal agencies. The bill now advances to the full Senate.
