Google has decided to hype up Android 17 a bit by saying that “amazing things” are coming. This comes from Sameer Samat, who is the President of the Android Ecosystem over at Google.
Android is evolving from an operating system to an intelligent system, says Google
He took the stage during Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event yesterday, when he said what he said. He actually kicked off his speech by saying that the platform is “moving from an operating system to an intelligent system.”
He added that this “next chapter of Android” is about making a “platform that truly understands and works for you.” Android is in the process of rebuilding with AI at the core of the entire OS.
“Amazing things” are coming in Android 17
Samat also added that the company has “some amazing things in the next release of Android, and I’m excited to share more about that in the coming months.”
He, of course, meant Android 17. That’s the next big version of Android, as Google already pushed out the first beta build of the system. The stable build is coming in the next couple of months.
Sameer Samat also mentioned Gemini during his talk. He said: “Gemini’s next evolution that lets you get more done across your phone.” These features will be rolled out to the Pixel 10 and Galaxy S26 series devices first.
Google’s exec was not on stage for long, but he achieved what he wanted. This was supposed to be a teaser for Android 17 and what’s to come. He ended his talk by saying: “Android is always where you see the future first.”
All this happened during the Galaxy S26 series launch event
As a reminder, Samsung announced its new flagship smartphones during the event yesterday. The Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+, and Galaxy S26 Ultra were announced, as expected.
Those three phones are quite similar to their predecessors, but some new features and hardware is included, especially on the Galaxy S26 Ultra.
