As electric cars become more complex, truly good technology is defined by how little you notice it. Skoda’s latest electric models focus on simplicity, efficiency and ease of use, with intelligent systems designed to operate smoothly and quietly behind the scenes. The result is tech that feels natural from day one, and makes electric ownership feel effortlessly straightforward. After all, you shouldn’t need a degree in electronics to get the most out of your car, right?

Having driven every Skoda EV since the Enyaq first appeared in 2021, we’re pretty well qualified to choose our favourite and stand-out bits of tech. So here are our five can’t-live-without technology features that make Skoda EV life so much easier.

Remote cabin pre-conditioning

If any technology highlights one of the key advantages of an EV over a traditional combustion engine car, it’s this. Cabin preconditioning is one of those EV features you don’t realise you need, until you’ve used it. In simple terms, it lets you heat or cool the car before you get in, using mains power or the battery while the car is parked. That means no climbing into an icy cabin in winter or a sweltering greenhouse on a hot summer’s day.

On cold mornings, preconditioning warms the interior, heats the seats and also de-ices the windscreen and windows before you set off. Not only is that more comfortable, it’s also a genuine safety feature, giving you clear visibility without scraping or waiting for the heater to catch up. In summer, it does the opposite, cooling the cabin so you’re not blasted with hot air the moment you open the door.

If you’re plugged in and charging, preconditioning also helps preserve driving range by using the mains to heat or cool the car. Triggered via the Skoda Connect app, you can even select your preferred temperature and choose whether you want the heated seats on. If you’re not plugged in, the car will use its main battery to heat or cool the cabin.
