Apple has seemingly started working on the 2nd-generation foldable device before the launch of the iPhone Ultra. It looks like the company has doubts about whether its first-ever creation will debut in the market as a hit or turn out to be a flop!
Weibo leaker @DigitalChatStation confirmed that Apple began working on the 2nd iPhone Ultra foldable. Although the new device could disappoint you in terms of display.
The tipster mentioned the Cupertino company could use the first-gen folding phone screen for the second generation as well, probably due to the component cost increase.
iPhone Ultra expected to debut with a foldable LTPO OLED screen coupled with ProMotion. The main screen can measure 7.8 inches, while the external display might be 5.5 inches. Both panels will support a 120Hz high refresh rate.
Leaks suggest Samsung to be the “exclusive supplier” of the iPhone Ultra’s advanced M16 display panels. These panels may also support a built-in color filtering layer, eliminating outdated layers to save space and reducing the crease visibility.

And the latest piece of information indicates that Apple could continue using the same display solution for its second-generation foldable. Other specs are still under wraps, and the upcoming leaks may bring some more interesting insights on this topic.
Besides the 2nd foldable, the tipster stated that there is no information about the iPhone Air 3. Hence, the iPhone Air 2 model may appear as a highlight in the sales market, contributing to the company’s annual revenue.
The tipster further mentioned that if the iPhone Air 2 doesn’t meet the mark in shipments, the company’s ultra-thin smartphone lineup could be in danger.
What Apple has planned for the future will get some light shed after the first iPhone foldable debuts and gets some clear response regarding its overall experience.
