Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra launched earlier this year with the Privacy Display feature as its main differentiator from all of its competitors, but according to a new rumor Samsung Display will be offering this to other smartphone manufacturers by the end of 2028.

Some Chinese Android OEMs are going to be waiting for that moment, while others are already developing similar solutions by working together with Chinese display manufacturers. We recently heard that Xiaomi’s 18 Pro could have a Privacy Display feature of its own.

Today Honor is also rumored to be developing a similar technology, again in partnership with a Chinese display panel maker. How good these Chinese Privacy Display solutions will turn out to be compared to Samsung’s remains to be seen.

For what it’s worth, Honor is apparently testing this on two upcoming devices, one with a 6.3-inch screen and the other with a 6.8-inch panel. Presumably these are the Magic9 devices expected to launch later this year.

Clearly, Chinese OEMs have paid a lot of attention to Samsung’s innovation in this space. A lot of consumers seem to love it too, but of course the specific implementation does matter a lot. We’ll probably hear a lot more about the Chinese-developed Privacy Displays in the coming months, so stay tuned.
