Surface RTX Spark Dev Box focuses on maximum performance in a mini PC format
After Microsoft unveiled the Surface Laptop Ultra with NVIDIA RTX Spark, the desktop version of the platform is now following suit. The new Surface RTX Spark Dev Box uses the same chipset, but can operate it with a power consumption of up to 100 watts. This provides significantly more scope for sustained high computing power than with mobile devices.
Inside, the new RTX Spark platform works with up to 20 ARM-based processor cores and 6,144 CUDA cores of the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture. The Dev Box is therefore primarily aimed at users who want to run local AI models, develop software or use data-intensive applications.
The 128 GB of RAM that Microsoft has planned for the system is particularly noteworthy. This memory configuration should offer particular advantages for large language models, AI agents, virtualization or complex development environments. In view of the increasing importance of local AI processing, the high memory capacity appears to be a logical step.
