Apple’s pre-production cadence for the iPhone Ultra is moving ahead at full steam, with prototypes reportedly being sent to global carriers for testing.

A fresh tidbit has emerged against this encouraging backdrop, suggesting that Apple appears to have settled on a Liquidmetal hinge, a bigger battery, and a titanium frame for its upcoming foldable iPhone.

We noted yesterday that the iPhone Ultra was now likely to sport a dedicated vapor chamber, which should allow for an impressive thermal performance.

Well, a Weibo-based tipster, Fixed-focus digital cameras, has now come forward with an interesting leak, suggesting that Apple has finalized a Liquidmetal hinge for the upcoming iPhone Ultra, going on to add that prototype units were now being sent to global carriers for testing and validation.

For the benefit of those who might not be aware, Apple’s Liquidmetal is basically the commercial branding of an amorphous metal alloy, which is cooled rapidly during the manufacturing stage to prevent atoms from arranging themselves in neat crystalline shapes. This leaves the atoms in a chaotic and disordered arrangement that resembles the atomic structure of glass. The resulting metal is around 1.5x harder than stainless steel and 2.5x stronger than standard titanium, while still able to flex under stress.

iPhone Ultra will have a larger battery than the Z Fold 8 Ultra and Z Fold 8 Wide, a vapour chamber and a titanium frame. e-sim only but unlike the Air this is worth the trade off.

Oh and a A20 Pro chip based on TSMC N2 which should help with battery life. https://t.co/tyr9bKNehY

Meanwhile, the tipster Ice Universe has proclaimed that “the weight of Apple’s iPhone Ultra is bound to exceed” that of Samsung’s comparable offering, dubbed the Galaxy Z Fold 8. For reference, Ice Universe believes Samsung’s offering would weigh 201 grams.

You forgot to add the fact that…
