BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) – United Hospital Center debuted a brand new technology unit today that will help hospital staff care for patients even when they’re not physically in the room.
The $2 million investment is the first of its kind in West Virginia.
The unit includes brand new AI-enhanced rooms that allow for care for both patients and nurses. Officials at UHC say this technology will allow nurses to monitor patients without continuously entering their rooms.
Officials say this system will also allow patients to get more sleep and have fewer interruptions.
Each room will be equipped with a non-recording camera that can alert staff of any high-risk behavior. There will also be a digital whiteboard in every room that syncs directly with electronic medical records to display information for both the patient and staff members.
“I think what this technology does, it’s not going to replace our nurses, it’s not going to replace our caregivers, it’s going to enhance and make their care more efficient,” said Dr. David Hess, president and CEO of United Hospital Center.
Hess said the eventual goal is to have this system throughout the entire hospital and then throughout the entire health system.
