The driving force behind this mobile browser revolution is a new European Union law known as the Digital Markets Act. Under its terms, major tech giants now have to offer smartphone owners the ability to choose a default browser on their devices. Before this law came into action, Safari remained the only browser available out of the box to Apple product users.
Due to the new EU digital law, Mozilla managed to receive unprecedented popularity. Ever since the implementation of this law at the beginning of 2024, more than six million individuals have decided to download Firefox as their default browser. At that speed, it equates to gaining a single new customer every ten seconds.
According to recent studies of top tech researchers, as reported by @Pirat_Nation, the number of people using Firefox on their iPhones increased by a whopping 113 percent due to the new law. On the other hand, there was only a 12 percent increase among Android phones, which already allowed its users to choose their browsers freely.
