The public version of iOS 26.5 is finally here and with a few key updates for your iPhone. The latest version of iOS isn’t massive but it does make for some big specific changes.

Primarily, the update focuses on RCS messages in the Messages app, a new Pride wallpaper, CarPlay updates and Maps updates.

The most notable change is the addition of end-to-end encryption for RCS messages between iPhone and Android phones. Apple has been testing the encrypted messages since iOS 26.4 beta 2 in February.

According to an Apple news release, this feature is still in a beta form but ready for the public, unlike the normal betas. “Users will know that a conversation is end-to-end encrypted when they see a new lock icon in their RCS chats. Just in time for Pride month in June, Apple is releasing its annual Pride wallpapers for iPhone, iPad and your Apple Watch. This year’s edition is highly customizable with different colors.

There are also nearly a dozen unique variants for you to try to find the flavor you prefer. The wallpapers are meant to be “joyful and dynamic” and celebrate LGBTQ+ communities.

My colleague John Velasco tested ChatGPT in iOS 26.5 and found that the OpenAI chatbot’s voice was more fluid and realistic than Siri or Gemini.
