Nash County sheriff’s Senior Deputy Tyler Mooring checks his on-board mobile data terminal for information while on patrol.



Nash County sheriff’s Senior Deputy Tyler Mooring was quickly able to show the value of cutting-edge technology in his job as part of the sheriff’s traffic unit.

The car that Mooring drives, a late model Ford Mustang GT 50 with a throaty sounding engine, is his rolling office and includes an on-board mobile data terminal in addition to a device built to detect whether a motorist is driving beyond the speed limit.

Mooring recently headed out from the sheriff’s office in downtown Nashville, turned east onto U.S. 64 to get to Rocky Mount and made his way to South Wesleyan Boulevard.

Mooring was monitoring a hot spot for would-be speeding motorists, South Wesleyan in the southern part of the city, and he also was planning to head farther south to another hot spot, the multilane part of U.S. 301 in Sharpsburg.
