If you’re new to Linux, you might have heard Linux experts talking about how good Arch Linux is. You might be wondering if you’re ready to go beyond your first “beginner” distro and learn a distro that will teach you how Linux actually works. Here are some ways to tell you’re ready to take the next step.

You’re comfortable with the command line

You know commands like the back of your hand

Arch Linux uses the command line the most. There aren’t any wizards or menus in the system. This means that you’ll have to be comfortable using the command line if you want to install it.

The installation is also completely console-based. There won’t be any hand-holding installers. You’ll have to be able to run the disk partitioning utilities, update the system clock, install packages, and install the bootloader. All of this will require being comfortable entering commands and command-line options. There is an optional installation script, but that’s also command-line-based.
