Apple’s foldable iPhone reportedly ditching Face ID but bringing back an old favorite feature

According to a new report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple’s foldable iPhone may not have Face ID to keep its build thin. Instead, the company could reintroduce one of the most popular features from its earlier smartphones: Touch ID.

If this rumor is true, the foldable iPhone will feature a fingerprint sensor integrated into the power button. This design would allow the device to maintain a slimmer profile while still offering secure biometric security.

Apple’s foldable iPhone may take a different approach to biometric security compared to recent models. According to Mark Gurman, the device could drop Face ID entirely and instead bring back Touch ID via a fingerprint sensor embedded in the side power button.

The company has already implemented power button Touch ID sensors in several iPad models. This system continues to provide secure biometric authentication while conserving internal space for other essential components.

Gurman also suggests that the foldable iPhone may feature a punch-hole front camera rather than the traditional notch. However, this does not mean the Dynamic Island will disappear; it will likely remain a feature for notifications and Live Activities.

Pricing for Apple’s foldable iPhone is expected to position the device in the ultra-premium segment. Multiple leaks suggest the starting price could be close to 2,000 US dollars. If these rumors prove accurate, the device could be the most expensive smartphone that the brand has ever launched.
