Apple significantly expanded its iPhone production in India in 2025, increasing output by about 53% as the company looks to reduce its dependence on China and mitigate tariff risks. According to a Bloomberg report citing sources familiar with the matter, Apple assembled around 55 million iPhones in India last year, compared with 36 million units in 2024. With Apple producing roughly 220 million to 230 million iPhones globally each year, India now accounts for about a quarter of the company’s total output, highlighting the country’s growing role in Apple’s global manufacturing strategy.

Apple’s expansion of iPhone production in India gathered pace in 2025 as shipments from China faced challenges due to US tariffs linked to ongoing trade tensions between Washington and Beijing. While China still produces the majority of Apple’s iPhones, the tariffs pushed the company and its suppliers to shift more production, especially devices intended for the US market, to alternative manufacturing bases, with India emerging as a key hub, according to a Bloomberg report.
