Flock Safety cameras mounted on street poles across Harris County and the Houston area have become the focus of recent news coverage and have often been the subject of debate as they relate to public safety and personal privacy.<\/p>\n

Several cameras were vandalized in Houston recently. In Pasadena, a police officer resigned after he was accused of using Flock camera systems to monitor and stalk a female officer, according to a city council member. A Houston man faces federal charges\u00a0and is accused of threatening to kill Jewish people at the Georgia-based company that builds the cameras.<\/p>\n

The Harris County Commissioners Court voted in May to renew the county’s contract with Flock Safety through June 2027. The Los Angeles Police Department did not renew its contract with the company over privacy concerns,\u00a0according to the Los Angeles Times.<\/p>\n

These around-the-clock surveillance cameras were designed to help police investigate crimes such as vehicle thefts and burglaries. The cameras are installed on street poles and can capture images of vehicle license plates.<\/p>\n
