I just got the update on both phones today, and there’s no telling when other Xiaomi phones will make the switch — my Xiaomi 17T Pro is still on Android 16.

Xiaomi has struggled to deliver platform updates on time in the last two years, so this is a refreshing change of pace. It’s almost as if someone at Xiaomi read my post on Android 17 updates and decided to take action. As it stands, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra and Xiaomi 17 are the only phones outside of Google Pixels to have made the switch to Android 17.

There’s just one problem: I don’t see anything new with the update. Although the phones are now on Android 17, they’re still based on HyperOS 3.0.332, so I don’t see any changes to the interface or new feature additions. It’s possible we will get those with HyperOS 4.0, so if you’re looking to delve into all the new stuff that Google introduced with Android 17 on your Xiaomi phone, you will have to wait until Xiaomi updates its skin.

Latest Videos From

Interestingly, Android 17 isn’t mentioned in the 9.6GB update changelog; it just lists the usual stability tweaks and June 2026 security update. While I didn’t see any changes in the UI or features, the only difference is that the interface has slightly better fluidity.

(Image credit: Harish Jonnalagadda / Android Central)

Outside of that, it’s virtually identical to the Android 16-based version of the interface. That’s by design; Xiaomi largely ignores Google’s platform-related changes, instead focusing on its own interface and features as a point of differentiation. While that was a positive in the past, Xiaomi’s interface is in need of an overhaul, and I was counting on the brand to do so with Android 17 and HyperOS 4.0 — leaks pointed to an iOS-esque Liquid Glass design that looks much more modern. It looks like I’ll just have to wait a little longer.

You may like

Get the…

Source

Xiaomi somehow rolls out stable Android 17 update ahead of its rivals https://www.androidcentral.com/phones/xiaomi/xiaomi-somehow-rolls-out-stable-android-17-update-ahead-of-its-rivals Publish Date:…

[46
70,57,118
post-290086","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-android","tag-google","tag-security","tag-xiaomi
