employees have been recruited by OpenAI and actively pushed to reveal Apple trade secrets.<\/p>\n<p>Last year OpenAI paid \u00a0$6.4 billion to buy iPhone designer Jonny Ive\u2019s \u00a0startup \u00a0io Products.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOpenAI\u2019s nascent hardware business now rests on the shakiest of foundations, rotten to its core by its illegal reliance on misappropriated trade secrets,\u201d Apple wrote in its complaint.<\/p>\n<p>Apple\u2019s lawsuit \u00a0alleges that Tang Yew Tan, OpenAI\u2019s chief hardware officer who was previously \u00a0an Apple vp took information about Apple suppliers with him to OpenAI and encouraged interviewees at OpenAI to divulge confidential company information.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe has directed job candidates still working for Apple to bring \u2018actual parts\u2019 from Apple to their interviews for \u2018show and tell\u2019 sessions in which he and his team at OpenAI can elicit still more Apple confidential information,\u201d states Apple\u2019s lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p>Apple also says employees were instructed to bring \u201cCAD\/design artifacts\u201d and \u201cprototypes\u201d to interviews.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ArticleBodyText_articleBodyContent__17wqE typography_articleBody___5jDr paywall\" data-component=\"paragraph\">If Apple is able to prove that OpenAI incorporated its trade secrets into upcoming devices, OpenAI could be forced to redesign its products.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ArticleBodyText_articleBodyContent__17wqE typography_articleBody___5jDr paywall\" data-component=\"paragraph\">OpenAI is said to be at such an advanced stage of its phone development that it will announce its first product this year and release it next year and is said to be looking at speakers and wearables as well as phones.<\/p>\n<p>Apple is seeking damages and a court order that would block OpenAI from possessing or using its trade secrets.<\/p>\n<p><a
