The iOS 27 public beta is coming soon \u2014 if Apple\u2019s previous release pattern holds up, it could hit your iPhone any day now. Developers have been having all the fun since early June, playing around with Siri AI and the new Liquid Glass slider while the rest of us waited. Now, that wait is almost over.<\/p>\n

Once the public beta drops, which should be more stable than the initial developer betas, anyone can install iOS 27 for free. But your iPhone does need some prep first, and there are a few reasons you should think twice before hitting the Install button.<\/p>\n

When is iOS 27 public beta coming?<\/h2>\n

Apple hasn\u2019t revealed the exact date for the public beta, but promised at last month\u2019s WWDC26 that it would arrive sometime in July.<\/p>\n

Historically, every public beta from iOS 16 to iOS 26 has dropped between July 11 and July 24. This year\u2019s release is expected to follow the same pattern, following the third or fourth developer beta.<\/p>\n

That said, initial public betas have been coming later and later each July. The public first got their hands on the iOS 17 beta on July 12, 2024, then iOS 18 public beta 1 debuted July 15, 2025, and iOS 26 public beta 1 came on July 24 last year. So iOS 26 could still be several weeks away.<\/p>\n

How to get your iPhone ready<\/h3>\n

Signing up for the public beta takes five minutes and doesn\u2019t cost a single dime.<\/p>\n

  1. Head to beta.apple.com and sign up for Apple\u2019s Beta Software Program.<\/li>\n
  2. On your iPhone, head over to Settings<\/strong> General<\/strong> Software Update<\/strong> Beta Updates<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  3. Tap on iOS 27 Public Beta. If you don\u2019t see the option, restart your iPhone once.<\/li>\n
  4. Now, follow the prompts, and your iPhone will download the update and restart.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Is your iPhone compatible with iOS 27?<\/h3>\n

    iOS 27 is coming for the iPhone 11 and newer models, so most people reading this should be covered.<\/p>\n
