White House Adviser Says Trump Won’t Create ‘FDA for AI’<\/a><\/p>\n

The White House\u2019s<\/span> outgoing artificial intelligence adviser says the administration won\u2019t require formal licensing for the technology.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThere will not be an FDA for AI,\u201d <\/span>Sriram Krishnan<\/span> said in an <\/span>interview<\/span> with the Financial Times (FT) Friday (July 3), in reference to the Food and Drug Administration.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis administration, [the] president, from day one has been against burdensome, onerous, bureaucratic red tape. We are not in the business of picking winners and losers.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Krishnan said establishing a centralized agency requiring \u201ca team of lawyers before you can get a model out\u201d would put \u201csand in the gears\u201d of AI progress.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThat is never, never going to happen under President Trump,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

As the FT noted, his prediction comes weeks after the federal government\u2019s \u201cunprecedented intervention\u201d in forcing Anthropic to <\/span>pull the latest version<\/span> of its Mythos model, while also pausing the launch of OpenAI\u2019s 5.6.<\/span><\/p>\n

The report added that Krishnan, a former <\/span>venture capitalist<\/span> who worked with Elon Musk before joining the White House, had been among those in the administration championing a more <\/span>laissez-faire<\/span> approach to AI regulation.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the FT, some corners of Washington say the administration\u2019s <\/span>passion for deregulation<\/span> has helped fuel rising public backlash against AI.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The report cited findings from researcher Data Center Watch showing a majority of Americans support tough AI regulations, while at least 75 data center projects were halted by local opposition in the first three months of the year.<\/span><\/p>\n

In other AI news, recent PYMNTS Intelligence research shows that companies are using the technology across more parts of their operation than ever, while <\/span>placing less trust<\/span> in AI to act on its own.<\/span><\/p>\n
