Though The Rolling Stones used cutting-edge tech to de-age themselves for a recent music video, the octogenarian rockers aren\u2019t too keen on artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the Times of London about their creative process ahead of their upcoming 25th studio album\u2014\u201dForeign Tongues,\u201d out on July 10 \u2014 Mick Jagger admitted that he found AI to be disappointing. The frontman said he tossed album title ideas at a large language model before the release of their 2023 album, \u201cHackney Diamonds.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo one could agree, and I threw all these titles at it, and it came back with such rubbish, it didn\u2019t help me at all,\u201d he said. \u201cI was saying, \u2018These are my 12 album titles, give me some more,\u2019 and of course in the end we never used any of them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jagger said if generative AI has any use, it\u2019s as a confidence booster. He sees the junk that AI puts out is a shot in the arm for creatives who are doubting their own instincts.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt can unstick you, and you think, \u2018OK, that was rubbish,\u2019 or \u2018Mine are loads better than yours,’\u201d he said. \u201cIt gives you confidence.\u201d<\/p>\n

The band also took time to discuss \u201cRinging Hollow,\u201d a countrified ballad on the new album that grapples with their nostalgic feelings about the United States and its seeming decline. In an interview with Mojo Magazine last month, Jagger explained that the track was about \u201cAmerica as an idea.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe American Dream is intact for some people, and I\u2019m sure we can find some wonderful immigrant stories that happened in the last 12 months, but we read about the decline of the American Empire,\u201d he said. \u201cIs the Iran war America\u2019s Suez moment? \u2026 In any case, it\u2019s not the same place as it was.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking to the Times, Keith Richards explained that the song was a \u201cnostalgic love affair\u201d with the United States. Richards, who has lived in Connecticut since 1985, said that the country was \u201ca bit of a disappointment at the moment.\u201d<\/p>\n
