On the day of a\u00a0holiday\u00a0that celebrates liberty and independence, some residents in West Texas are planning to protest what they view as distinctly un-American:\u00a0surveillance cameras.<\/span><\/p>\n

A group of residents in Lubbock is organizing a Fourth of July demonstration to call for the removal of Flock Safety cameras. They argue that the growing network raises concerns about privacy and government surveillance.<\/p>\n

The protest comes after months of discussion regarding the city’s use of automated license plate readers (ALPR). These devices capture images of passing vehicles and compare them to law enforcement databases. According to a publicly accessible map maintained by Deflock, over 120 Flock cameras have been installed throughout Lubbock.<\/span><\/p>\n
