It used to be that parents relied on location tracking apps to keep an eye on their kids; now, adult children are tracking their ageing parents for peace of mind.<\/p>\n

But experts warn Australians may be giving up their privacy and personal data in the process.<\/p>\n

Turner’s family use location tracking apps to keep an eye on her, just in case.\u00a0Jane Turner<\/p>\n

Jane Turner\u2019s 25-year-old daughter has been monitoring her location since Turner, 64, was diagnosed with young-onset Alzheimer\u2019s disease last year.<\/p>\n

It has affected her sense of direction and orientation, leaving her \u201cquite lost\u201d even in familiar locations.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt came to light one particular night where I\u2019d gone to a networking event, I got a cab home and got out […]\u00a0 probably 100 steps away from my apartment door,\u201d she told nine.com.au.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I was completely disorientated, and I walked for about 10 minutes in the complete opposite direction. I wasn\u2019t able to find home.\u201d<\/p>\n

Since that incident, Turner\u2019s husband and daughter have used Apple\u2019s \u2018Find My\u2019 app to track her.<\/p>\n

Turner feels safer knowing they can always find her, but doesn\u2019t want to share her location with anyone else.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou don\u2019t want it open to the whole world,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Sydneysider Sarah also uses location tracking to stay connected with her mum, who lives in a rural area of the UK.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel more involved in her life, and she says the same back to me,\u201d Sarah, 38, told nine.com.au.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt allows you to check in without checking in verbally, and it provides peace of mind, especially living halfway around the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

She said location tracking has strengthened their relationship, and they communicate more because of it.<\/p>\n
