June was sweltering, but the summer heat didn\u2019t slow down open-source software developers.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Last month delivered a wave of app updates, including the release of Firefox 152 with its streamlined settings, HandBrake resolved its Linux WebM handling and the Audacity 4.0 beta made a brand-new design available for public scrutiny (mainly of the \u201cmuch better\u201d variety).<\/p>\n

But underneath those highs \u2013 yes, I\u2019m determined to make this heat theme work \u2013 a quiet simmer of smaller maintenance updates rolled out too\u2026<\/p>\n

Cine gained Watch History<\/h3>\n

I spotlighted the Cine Linux video player earlier this year. It\u2019s an MPV-based player with an immersive UI, essential video features (subtitles, audio tracks, playlists) and support for video adjustments (brightness, contrast, zoom and more). <\/p>\n

Cine 1.7.0 arrived in June with a new Watch History feature. This, as the name suggests, shows you a history of what you\u2019ve watched recently. Open the app without a file and the main screen now has an icon to jump straight into it.<\/p>\n

This release also fixed the app not unpausing when a new file is opened and an empty title appearing on some desktop taskbars. The app gained new Ukrainian and Tamil translations.<\/p>\n

Cine source code is on Github, or install it from Flathub.<\/strong><\/p>\n

SuperFile made the sidebar configurable<\/h3>\n

SuperFile, a\u00a0terminal file manager\u00a0we\u2019ve covered before, released version 1.6.0 last month. <\/p>\n

Notably, sidebar sections can now be hidden or reordered via a config file, so the folders or drives that matter most are in reach. File previews were made reliable too, thanks to a switch to the Bubble Tea v2 library.<\/p>\n

The metadata panel now shows decoded inode flags for files on Linux and adds file type byte to the permissions column. SuperFile can now detect binary architecture for ELF, PE and Mach-O executables. Error messages for failed operations convey more…<\/p>\n
