Joey Hensley<\/p>\n<p>Special to The Daily Herald<\/p>\n<p>June 28, 2026, 5:01 a.m. CT<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The 114th\u00a0General Assembly adjourned for 2026, and it was a very successful year. We have taken measures for Tennessee to be a better place to live, work and to raise a family.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Here are some of the highlights.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"gnt_ar_b_h2\">Protected consumers from hidden fees and strengthening privacy<\/h2>\n<ul class=\"gnt_ar_b_ul\">\n<li class=\"gnt_ar_b_ul_li\">We passed legislation to\u00a0crack down on hidden fees and require upfront price transparency for online purchases.<\/li>\n<li class=\"gnt_ar_b_ul_li\">The lawtargets \u201cdrip pricing,\u201d ensuring consumers see the full cost\u00a0before buying concert tickets, booking travel or other purchases online.<\/li>\n<li class=\"gnt_ar_b_ul_li\">Strengthens privacy protections for biometric data, including information used in facial recognition.<\/li>\n<li class=\"gnt_ar_b_ul_li\">Protects taxpayers\u00a0by limiting costly and overly broad legal demands on state agencies.<\/li>\n<li class=\"gnt_ar_b_ul_li\">Bottom line:\u00a0this law promotes transparency, protects personal data, and ensures consumers keep more of their hard-earned money.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"gnt_ar_b_h2\">Increased transparency in hotel booking fees<\/h2>\n<ul class=\"gnt_ar_b_ul\">\n<li class=\"gnt_ar_b_ul_li\">We passed legislation to\u00a0require third-party hotel booking sites to clearly disclose all fees upfront.<\/li>\n<li class=\"gnt_ar_b_ul_li\">The law\u00a0ensures consumers can see all additional charges\u00a0and which services require extra fees before completing a booking.<\/li>\n<li class=\"gnt_ar_b_ul_li\">Violations are enforceable under Tennessee\u2019s Consumer Protection Act, strengthening accountability.<\/li>\n<li class=\"gnt_ar_b_ul_li\">This matters because\u00a0consumers deserve\u00a0clear, honest pricing without hidden fees.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Need a news break?
