The Wa\u00adter and Sew\u00ader\u00adage Au\u00adthor\u00adi\u00adty (WASA) says that re\u00adspond\u00ading to a Free\u00addom of In\u00adfor\u00adma\u00adtion re\u00adquest from Guardian Me\u00addia on the hir\u00ading prac\u00adtices and a re\u00adquest to dis\u00adclose the fig\u00adures and those who were hired over the last year is a breach of its pri\u00adva\u00adcy. <\/p>\n

In a 15-page state\u00adment re\u00adspond\u00ading to eight ques\u00adtions asked by Guardian Me\u00addia, WASA ex\u00adplained its rea\u00adsons for non-dis\u00adclo\u00adsure, four months af\u00adter the re\u00adquest was ini\u00adtial\u00adly made to the au\u00adthor\u00adi\u00adty. <\/p>\n

In its view, while ac\u00adknowl\u00adedg\u00ading the pub\u00adlic in\u00adter\u00adest el\u00ade\u00adment of the ques\u00adtions, its over\u00adar\u00adch\u00ading con\u00adcern re\u00admained on the pri\u00adva\u00adcy of the in\u00addi\u00advid\u00adu\u00adals em\u00adployed at the or\u00adgan\u00adi\u00adsa\u00adtion. <\/p>\n

On May 24, Guardian Me\u00addia In\u00adves\u00adti\u00adga\u00adtion re\u00advealed that more than 400 peo\u00adple, in\u00adclud\u00ading so\u00adcial me\u00addia in\u00adflu\u00adencers, were hired by WASA fol\u00adlow\u00ading the gen\u00ader\u00adal elec\u00adtion on April 28, 2025. In ad\u00addi\u00adtion, Guardian Me\u00addia had copies of in\u00adter\u00adnal re\u00adports doc\u00adu\u00adment\u00ading the hires, job ti\u00adtles, salaries and the rea\u00adson for the mass re\u00adcruit\u00adment.<\/p>\n

Pri\u00ador to that in\u00adves\u00adti\u00adga\u00adtion, Guardian Me\u00addia had filed its FOIA re\u00adquest on March 9, 2026, and WASA de\u00adlayed in pro\u00advid\u00ading a re\u00adsponse. <\/p>\n

A re\u00adsponse was on\u00adly pro\u00advid\u00aded last week, which gen\u00ader\u00adal\u00adly said that WASA had found no com\u00adplet\u00aded au\u00addit, re\u00adview or as\u00adsess\u00adment of the re\u00adcruit\u00adment ex\u00ader\u00adcise.<\/p>\n

WASA said the records con\u00adtain in\u00adter\u00adnal ad\u00advice, rec\u00adom\u00admen\u00adda\u00adtions and dis\u00adcus\u00adsions used in mak\u00ading de\u00adci\u00adsions. It ar\u00adgued that re\u00adleas\u00ading them could cre\u00adate un\u00adcer\u00adtain\u00adty among staff, af\u00adfect morale and dis\u00adrupt op\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtions. It al\u00adso said the records con\u00adtain per\u00adson\u00adal in\u00adfor\u00adma\u00adtion that could iden\u00adti\u00adfy em\u00adploy\u00adees.<\/p>\n
