With Android 17, Google is continuing down the never-ending AI rabbit hole with its upcoming agentic Gemini Intelligence platform, though this featuren won’t launch until later this year. However, amid the onslaught of AI, there are a few key new features that have me excited to use my Pixel 10 Pro as my daily device again.<\/p>\n

Some of these features are already available in Android 17’s current release for Pixel devices, like the new app Bubble multitasking, while others are coming later this year, such as turning a foldable phone’s second display into a controller and Pause Point.<\/p>\n

\n It makes Android feel more like a desktop operating system

I’ve always felt it’s weird that Android has never offered an out-of-the-box multitasking solution. Sure, there’s Samsung’s Multi Windows, but until now, there’s never been a core windowed multitasking feature for the standard version of Android. With Android 17, that finally changes. The new bubbles feature lets you select an app to display as a floating window, so you can keep tabs on it with other windows open. I’ve found this very useful during my time with Android 17 so far.<\/p>\n

It turns multitasking on my Pixel 10 Pro into a carousel of apps I want to access quickly, and makes it very easy to go back and reference notes while running another app at the same time. Bubbles can also be dragged and dropped anywhere on your screen, adding to the convenience. On Pixel devices with larger screens, like the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, there’s even a desktop-like dock that provides quick access to apps (I haven’t tried this feature yet on my Pixel 10 Pro Fold, but I’m looking forward to taking it for a spin).<\/p>\n
