{"id":281971,"date":"2026-06-25T18:32:00","date_gmt":"2026-06-25T22:32:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news-you-need.com\/index.php\/2026\/06\/25\/privacy-concerns-over-west-kelowna-infill-housing-bylaw-quelled\/"},"modified":"2026-06-25T19:15:33","modified_gmt":"2026-06-25T23:15:33","slug":"privacy-concerns-over-west-kelowna-infill-housing-bylaw-quelled","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news-you-need.com\/index.php\/2026\/06\/25\/privacy-concerns-over-west-kelowna-infill-housing-bylaw-quelled\/","title":{"rendered":"Privacy concerns over West Kelowna infill housing bylaw quelled"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lakecountrycalendar.com\/2026\/06\/25\/privacy-concerns-over-west-kelowna-infill-housing-bylaw-quelled\/\">Privacy concerns over West Kelowna infill housing bylaw quelled<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lakecountrycalendar.com\/2026\/06\/25\/privacy-concerns-over-west-kelowna-infill-housing-bylaw-quelled\/\">https:\/\/lakecountrycalendar.com\/2026\/06\/25\/privacy-concerns-over-west-kelowna-infill-housing-bylaw-quelled\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Publish Date: <a href=\"publish_date]\">2026-06-25 18:32:00<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Source Domain: <a href=\"lakecountrycalendar.com\">lakecountrycalendar.com<\/a><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"headline\">Privacy concerns over West Kelowna infill housing bylaw quelled<\/h2>\n<p class=\"pubStamp\">Published 3:30 pm Thursday, June 25, 2026<\/p>\n<p>West Kelowna council is trying to diversify housing by removing regulations for infill housing.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, June 23, West Kelowna Council voted unanimously to approve the changes listed below:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Secondary suites: Increase maximum size from 100 m\u00b2 to 110 m\u00b2 and remove the \u201csubordinate appearance\u201d entrance requirement;<\/li>\n<li>Duplexes and townhouses: Update definitions to allow shared walls or floors and increase height in the R3 Zone to 11.0 m; Zoning Bylaw Amendments to Remove Barriers to Infill Housing (Public Hearing)<\/li>\n<li>Apartments: Allow ground floor units with individual entrances while maintaining common access; and<\/li>\n<li>Other amendments: Improve clarity, address implementation issues, and update administrative provisions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cThese amendments are intended to reduce regulatory barriers, improve flexibility, and support a broader range of housing forms,\u201d city staff wrote in a report to council.<\/p>\n<p>The vote following a short public hearing, in which two residents in the Lakeview Heights neighbourhood had issues with the amendments.<\/p>\n<p>The speakers pointed an amendment in the proposed changes which read \u201cCarriage homes: Remove additional siting and screening restrictions for decks or balconies over 0.6 m in height and rooftop patios, and allow carriage homes on parcels with secondary suites.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The speakers worried the amendments would lead to pose a privacy risk to residents in the area.<\/p>\n<p>Councillor Rick de Jong shared similar sentiments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe should be supporting screening and supporting sensitive development.
