Chang Ju-shan (\u5e38\u5982\u5c71), chairman of Airlee Group Co Ltd (\u611b\u723e\u9e97\u96c6\u5718), an aesthetic clinic chain that is under scrutiny for alleged privacy contraventions, was today indicted on charges of attempted rape and breaching a protection order.<\/p>\n

There is ample evidence behind the attempted rape charge, including testimony from the complainant, suspect and witnesses, surveillance footage, communications records, forensic DNA reports, and medical documents, Taipei prosecutors said.<\/p>\n

An acquaintance accused Chang of attempting to rape her, and after he was summoned for questioning on Feb. 5, a protection order was issued against him, the indictment said.<\/p>\n

However, Chang continued to harass the woman, breaching the protection order, prosecutors said.<\/p>\n

His actions caused lasting trauma to the victim, and his disregard for the court-issued order warranted a heavy sentence, prosecutors said.<\/p>\n

Chang has been detained incommunicado since May 8 over his alleged involvement in privacy contraventions at his cosmetic clinic chain Airlee.<\/p>\n

The investigation into the chain was prompted by a social media post from a customer who said that what appeared to be a smoke detector mounted on the ceiling of a treatment room at the chain’s Banciao District (\u677f\u6a4b) branch was actually a camera.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors have said they are attempting to recover surveillance footage that was deleted.<\/p>\n

Several other Airlee branches have since been fined or ordered by local governments to suspend operations over alleged contraventions including unauthorized charges and the filming of patients without authorization.<\/p>\n

The case has prompted investigations into several other aesthetic clinic chains over similar allegations.<\/p>\n
