{"id":274735,"date":"2026-06-17T09:35:00","date_gmt":"2026-06-17T13:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news-you-need.com\/index.php\/2026\/06\/17\/a-safe-ai-strategy-for-canadian-youth-should-include-age-associated-risks\/"},"modified":"2026-06-17T15:40:20","modified_gmt":"2026-06-17T19:40:20","slug":"a-safe-ai-strategy-for-canadian-youth-should-include-age-associated-risks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news-you-need.com\/index.php\/2026\/06\/17\/a-safe-ai-strategy-for-canadian-youth-should-include-age-associated-risks\/","title":{"rendered":"A safe AI strategy for Canadian youth should include age-associated risks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/theconversation.com\/a-safe-ai-strategy-for-canadian-youth-should-include-age-associated-risks-284997\">A safe AI strategy for Canadian youth should include age-associated risks<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/theconversation.com\/a-safe-ai-strategy-for-canadian-youth-should-include-age-associated-risks-284997\">https:\/\/theconversation.com\/a-safe-ai-strategy-for-canadian-youth-should-include-age-associated-risks-284997<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Publish Date: <a href=\"publish_date]\">2026-06-17 09:35:00<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Source Domain: <a href=\"theconversation.com\">theconversation.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The federal government recently announced two policies that will shape the future of Canadian youth\u2019s interactions with artificial intelligence: the AI for All strategy and the Safe Social Media Act. <\/p>\n<p>The government says the AI for All strategy will give \u201caccess to AI training and education for all Canadians\u201d to address Canada\u2019s \u201cAI adoption gap,\u201d arguing that \u201cadoption will drive AI\u2019s benefits for Canadians.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The Safe Social Media Act proposes establishing a regulator to protect youth from egregious harms posed by AI chatbots, such as \u201creinforcing harmful behaviours and providing unsafe responses.\u201d It aims to maximize the safe adoption of AI by Canadian youth. <\/p>\n<p>However, research on generative AI (genAI) use among youth pinpoints design features that pose age-specific risks, which must be addressed before we adopt genAI in our schools and homes.<\/p>\n<p>The AI for All Strategy includes free AI literacy training via online courses, K-12 educator training, making AI chatbots available to all post-secondary students, job opportunities via funded internships and safety-focused governance of these systems.<\/p>\n<p>The Safe Social Media Act introduces a framework to improve online safety.
