late, Anthropic has pushed OpenClaw users toward its pay-per-token API1, turning what was once a one-time hardware purchase into an (large) ongoing expense2. Even if you use OpenAI, you\u2019re still going to be paying quite a bit monthly.<\/p>\n

However, getting everything installed and configured can be confusing, especially if you\u2019re new to local LLMs. <\/p>\n

In this article, I\u2019ll show you how to set up a local LLM (in the most pain-free way) on your Mac Mini that can power your agent for free. <\/p>\n

You can use it even if you\u2019re a beginner.<\/p>\n

A local LLM<\/strong> (properly set up) will perform almost indistinguishably<\/strong> for tasks like emails, calendar management, reminders, home IoT automation and basic internet research<\/strong> (things you actually do with OpenClaw).<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re thinking about buying a Mac Mini, I\u2019d recommend at least an M2+ processor with at least 24GB of RAM. You can get away with 16GB, however, things will be quite tight and you might run into errors with larger contexts.<\/p>\n

Setting things up<\/h2>\n

First, install OpenClaw using the official guide. If you\u2019ve already done this, skip this step.<\/p>\n
