For some iOS 27 beta 1 users, the indexing process is taking much longer than expected. Thankfully, there\u2019s a way to check the actual percentage from a Mac. Here\u2019s how.<\/p>\n

How to check indexing progress on iOS 27 beta 1<\/h2>\n

As Apple explained during the WWDC26 keynote, iOS 27 completely overhauls how the system indexes user content, partly due to the revamped Apple Intelligence models and the underlying Apple Foundation Models.<\/p>\n

After installing iOS 27 beta 1, the system completely reindexes the iPhone\u2019s content, based on the new structure. Users can check whether the indexing process has completed by opening Settings. On devices still indexing, a banner says:<\/p>\n

Indexing in Progress<\/strong>
You can use your iPhone as you normally would. Indexing improves search and can take a while. Longer charging sessions help indexing go faster. Learn more\u2026<\/p>\n

While indexing appears to be fast for some users, it can take much longer for others. That obviously depends on how much content the system needs to index and, as Apple notes in the banner, how much time the device spends charging for extended periods.<\/p>\n

Currently, iOS doesn\u2019t offer a way to check exactly how much indexing is left on the iPhone itself. However, for users who have been seeing the same message for days, there is a way to check that progress percentage from a Mac.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s how:<\/p>\n

  1. Connect your iPhone to your Mac<\/li>\n
  2. On your Mac, open the Console app<\/li>\n
  3. In the Action menu, make sure the \u201cInclude Debug Messages\u201d option is activated<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    1. Select your iPhone in the sidebar<\/li>\n
    2. In the search field, on the top right, search for: spotlight indexing progress<\/li>\n
    3. Click on the \u201cStart\u201d button<\/li>\n
    4. On your iPhone, open Settings<\/li>\n
    5. Your indexing progress should start to appear as: PipelineCompleteness: XX%.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
