The transition to Gemini on Android Auto has been a bit rough for a number of reasons, but a current bug has left some users unable to make calls due to a strange error, and it\u2019s not just an issue behind the wheel.<\/p>\n

Confirmed by quite a few Android Auto users on separate Reddit threads this week, Gemini is failing to make calls via voice commands in the car. It also seems to be affected Gemini\u2019s ability to place calls on Android itself. <\/p>\n

An error message saying \u201cSomething went wrong. Please try again\u201d shows up on the phone as pictured below.<\/p>\n

Seeing as this isn\u2019t an Android Auto-only issue, it\u2019s hard to say what exactly is the root cause of the problem, but it\u2019s probably rooted in a Gemini or Google app update.<\/p>\n

Several affected users say switching back to Google Assistant seems to fix the problem, but that\u2019s definitely a short-term fix.<\/p>\n

Notably, this comes as we\u2019ve also noticed in recent days that Android Auto has been intermittently showing the Assistant icon again instead of Gemini, despite using Gemini for the response.
