Eight days from now, on June 23, the data protection authorities of all seven G7 nations will convene in Paris for a four-day roundtable chaired by France&#8217;s Commission Nationale de l&#8217;Informatique et des Libert\u00e9s \u2014 with artificial intelligence enforcement, cross-border data flow rules, and the closing of a long-exploited jurisdictional loophole all on the agenda. For any company that has structured its data operations to route personal data through the most permissive G7 jurisdiction, the clock is running out.<\/p>\n<h3>AI Enforcement Coordination Is the Core Agenda, Not a Sidebar<\/h3>\n<p>The summit, which runs through June 26, brings together the national data protection and privacy authorities of France, the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States, Germany, Italy, and Japan. The European Union also participates. The 2026 host is France, which holds the G7 presidency this year \u2014 the same presidency under which the leaders&#8217; summit is taking place in \u00c9vian this week.<\/p>\n<p>The 2026 Action Plan, adopted by the G7 DPAs at a virtual meeting in December 2025, sets out three working pillars for the Paris gathering: Data Free Flow with Trust, emerging technologies including agentic AI and smart glasses, and \u2014 most consequentially for companies \u2014 enforcement cooperation. That third pillar is the one to watch. The working groups reporting in Paris are specifically tasked with building a cross-border case-sharing format that would let DPAs from different countries identify the same company in the same investigation, share evidence-gathering techniques, and align enforcement outcomes. That is not regulatory aspiration.
