LAS VEGAS \u2014<\/strong> Milestone Systems is rebuilding for the artificial intelligence (AI) era.<\/p>\n

Security Sales & Integration attended the company\u2019s inaugural Milestone Xperience Days event in North America in early June, where two of the company\u2019s leaders expounded in detail on their vision: vice president of Americas Tim Palmquist and chief technology officer Andrew Burnett.<\/p>\n

Their messages converged to form a compelling synthesis: Milestone wants to modernize its platform, keep humans at the center of automation and turn retained video into long-term value, all while leaning into an open partner network that\u2019s refreshingly different from the \u201cwe should own it all\u201d mentality we sometimes see in the tech space.<\/p>\n

Milestone is certainly not a new name \u2014 its heritage stretches back 28 years. What\u2019s different now is the architecture underneath the products and the conviction that video data \u2014 once routinely discarded \u2014 has become one of the industry\u2019s most valuable assets.<\/p>\n

A Modular, Containerized Foundation<\/h3>\n

Burnett begins by discussing the platform\u2019s direction, framing each architectural decision as one made with customer value firmly in mind.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have, of course, onstage today talked about the fact that it\u2019s going to have a Linux underpinning,\u201d he explains of the company\u2019s plans for a future-proof video management platform built for the AI era. \u201cOur research tells us and shows us that if you want to be building software for analytics and AI use cases, which has formed a lot of what we talked about, there really is only one choice there.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, it\u2019s a technology choice, but ultimately it\u2019s to deliver value for customers at the end of it. XProtect is still a phenomenal product. But if we are going to answer those future use cases, we realize that, underneath the hood, we\u2019re going to have to do something different. And that\u2019s why we\u2019ve made those choices,\u201d says Burnett.<\/p>\n
