(AI-assisted photo illustration: Evertec media handout; Zerbor | Dreamstime.com)<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Evertec Group LLC is facing three proposed class-action lawsuits in federal court in Puerto Rico accusing the payment processing and financial technology company of failing to adequately protect customer information that may have been exposed in a cybersecurity incident disclosed earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The complaints, filed June 12 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico, were brought separately by Maribel Torres of Naranjito, Maria Aquino of Comer\u00edo and Miguel \u00c1lvarez of Villalba. The lawsuits make substantially similar allegations and seek to represent people whose information may have been compromised.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The plaintiffs allege that Evertec failed to use reasonable cybersecurity measures to safeguard personal information, including names, contact information, transaction records and payment card numbers. They also allege that the company failed to take reasonable steps to prevent unauthorized access to information entrusted to it and did not provide adequate notice about the incident.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The lawsuits followed a June 9 securities filing in which Evertec said it had learned on May 13 of potential unauthorized access to customer data through a third-party support platform. The company said the incident primarily affected financial institution clients in Puerto Rico and their customers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Evertec said it had taken steps to contain the incident and secure its systems, and that it believed the unauthorized party no longer had access to the third-party support platform.
