efforts to tackle the problem.<\/p>\n<p>In a <span data-qa=\"Component-Text\" class=\"css-0 ef9u0v00\">recent landmark case<\/span>, a court in the eastern city of Hangzhou ruled against a tech company that had fired one of its workers after he refused to accept a demotion and pay cut, with the company telling him he could be replaced by AI.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The worker had been employed by a fintech firm to evaluate the accuracy of answers generated by AI models.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The court said replacing the worker, surnamed Zhou, on cost grounds did not constitute a \u201cmaterial change in objective circumstances\u201d \u2013 a legal requirement for firing him.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The Hangzhou Intermediate
