Apple is continuing to work closely with London\u2019s Metropolitan Police as part of ongoing efforts to reduce iPhone theft and make stolen devices less valuable to criminals.<\/p>\n

The collaboration allows Apple and the Met to share information and better understand what happens to stolen iPhones after they are taken, helping both sides assess how effective existing anti-theft measures are and identify areas for improvement.<\/p>\n

Over the past several years, Apple has introduced a number of security features designed to discourage theft. Tools such as Activation Lock and Stolen Device Protection make it significantly harder for thieves to access personal data, reactivate devices, or resell stolen iPhones.<\/p>\n

At the same time, the Metropolitan Police has intensified its response to phone theft across London, particularly targeting criminals who use e-bikes and scooters to snatch devices from members of the public. The force has also adopted new tactics to help officers stop repeat offenders more effectively.<\/p>\n

According to a report from the BBC, data shared through the partnership has helped Apple gain a clearer understanding of how stolen iPhones are being handled after theft. The information has also assisted the company in tackling software used by criminals to erase and reset stolen devices for resale.<\/p>\n

Met Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley said that removing the ability to reactivate stolen phones dramatically reduces their resale value, making theft less attractive to organised criminals.<\/p>\n

Rowley also revealed that Apple believes it has largely solved a technical issue that previously allowed some stolen iPhones to be reset and sold on secondary markets overseas. Early data suggests most recently stolen devices in London are no longer being successfully reset.<\/p>\n

The impact appears to be reflected in crime figures. The Metropolitan Police says phone thefts have fallen by around 18% over the past year, representing approximately 14,000 fewer incidents…<\/p>\n
