Michael S. Day:<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Michael S. Day recently joined his colleagues in passing H.5472,\u00a0An Act\u00a0establishing\u00a0the Massachusetts consumer data privacy act. This landmark legislation\u00a0establishes\u00a0essential consumer data privacy rights, provides consumers with greater control over their own\u00a0data\u00a0and increases accountability for companies.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs technology continues to shape nearly every aspect of our lives, protecting\u00a0our\u00a0\u00a0personal\u00a0data\u00a0is essential,\u201d\u00a0said Day. \u201cThis bill\u00a0establishes\u00a0strong safeguards that empower consumers, protect\u00a0minors\u00a0and hold companies accountable for how they collect,\u00a0use\u00a0and share personal information. I was proud to join my colleagues in advancing this important legislation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis legislation is about ensuring that the Commonwealth&#8217;s laws keep pace with the challenges of an increasingly data-driven world, where technology is embedded in\u00a0nearly every\u00a0aspect of daily life. Consumers deserve meaningful protections for their personal information and greater control over how that information is collected, used, and sold,\u201d said\u00a0House Speaker Ronald J. Mariano, D-Quincy.\u00a0\u201cThis bill establishes common-sense safeguards for sensitive data, strengthens transparency, and promotes accountability for entities that profit from personal information \u2013 striking an important balance between encouraging innovation and protecting the privacy rights of Massachusetts residents.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>H.5472\u00a0allows companies to only collect data that\u00a0consumers have\u00a0agreed to share, and data must be protected and\u00a0deleted\u00a0when no longer necessary or required by law.\u00a0Additionally, the bill creates\u00a0enhanced\u00a0protections for people under\u00a018, including a ban on targeted advertising directed at minors.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The bill prohibits companies from selling or sharing sensitive data without a user\u2019s consent.\u00a0Sensitive data includes:\u00a0biometric and genetic information, precise geolocation data, health&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/winchesternews.org\/20260612_ep-michael-s-day-passes-bill-establishing-the-massachusetts-consumer-data-privacy-act\/\">Source<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rep.
