Artificial intelligence investment accelerated across nearly every major economy during 2026. Governments announced multibillion-dollar infrastructure initiatives. Global enterprises expanded automation strategies. Universities redesigned academic programs around AI capability development. Financial institutions integrated generative AI into operations at extraordinary speed. <\/p>\n

Yet amid global enthusiasm surrounding productivity growth, a widening imbalance emerged between organizations capable of leveraging AI effectively and populations lacking access to workforce preparation, digital literacy, and future-focused learning pathways.<\/p>\n

In a previous Forbes article I discussed how AI strategy succeeds when leaders invest in human capability rather than technology alone. While organizations continue accelerating AI infrastructure investments, the more consequential question increasingly concerns whether workers, students, and communities possess the literacy, adaptability, and support systems necessary to participate meaningfully within AI-enabled economies.<\/p>\n

Economic history repeatedly demonstrates a central reality: technological progress rarely distributes opportunity evenly during periods of rapid transition. Railroads, industrialization, electrification, and internet expansion generated tremendous economic value while simultaneously reshaping labor markets unevenly across regions and populations. This imbalance is critical to understand.<\/p>\n

In the age of AI, the U.S. and other countries are following a similar trajectory. Countries, communities, and organizations possessing strong learning ecosystems, adaptable institutions, and digitally prepared workforces continue gaining momentum while underprepared populations face rising vulnerability.<\/p>\n
