In a new interview with Primordial Radio, SHINEDOWN guitarist Zach Myers weighed in on a debate about people using an A.I. (artificial intelligence) music generator as a tool to create melodies, harmonies and rhymes based on A.I. algorithms and machine learning (ML) models. Zach said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “That’s awful. Here’s the thing, man. All these Nashville guys who are writing with that \u2014 I don’t even know the name of the app\u2026 [But it’s] awful. Awful. You can hear it, dude. It’s so bad. How about you actually live a little life, go through some shit, and then write a song about it?<\/p>\n

“Here’s the thing: you can write with other people,” Zach clarified. “[But] I’m not writing with artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n

“Listen, I ask ChatGPT a million questions a day. It’s not ‘how to write a song’ or ‘write a song with me’.<\/p>\n

“I get it,” Myers added. “Again, everything starts with a good purpose, right? Everything. The Internet started with a good purpose. Now it’s just us talking shit about each other, and usually most people are doing it from their parents’ basement Wi-Fi. And then it’s, like, ‘Oh, now it’s gonna write songs for you.’<\/p>\n

“Listen, I think you can fool… I’ve always said this about a lot of things. I always equate it to my relationship with my bandmembers, which is really great. But you can fool some of the people some of the time; you cannot fool all the people all the time,” Zach said. “And I think when you start doing that, you’re getting into a dangerous game, man.<\/p>\n

“Listen, if you can sleep at night and you got a Number One song because you wrote it with your iPhone and some computer told you how to sing it, that’s your burden to carry, man, not mine.<\/p>\n

“Listen, this is the most cocky thing I’ll ever say in my life \u2014 we got 24 Number Ones without using a computer.”<\/p>\n

Zach concluded: “Don’t use A.I. to do your work for you.”<\/p>\n
