\n\t\t\t\t\t\tAt the Wellington Bay Retirement Community, high school students and seniors are connecting through a program that helps older adults navigate technology while sharing life experiences. “The seniors, many of them have some issues regarding use of technology, and we’re fortunate to have this group from Techease,” a participant said. Techease, founded in 2023 by American Heritage seniors Enan Khan and Rayan Kha, was created to address what they saw as a significant problem in the community. Your neighborhood: Local coverage from WPBF 25 News”We’re helping the seniors out with technology,” Khan said. “So we brought all of our high school students and student volunteers to come and work one-on-one with all the seniors to help them make sure they stay safe online, get all the tech help that they need. Just overall make sure they’re feeling well and comforted.” Kha explained the organization’s mission. “We help them get online and bridge the gap between generations to provide that technology that we use every single day,” he said. The volunteers have worked with various devices, including phones, flip phones, iPads, laptops, and even vintage film cameras. “I remember one from 1960. That was a device that we were working a long time on,” Khan said. “It’s like the old days if you wanted to do a VCR recording, you call the 8-year-old kid next door,” another participant said. Techease, which includes more than 30 student volunteers, has dedicated over 500 hours to helping seniors and has saved them more than $9,000 from potential ransomware attacks. “It’s a very nice statistic to have, and it goes to show that this is really needed. We can really help a lot. We are doing a community impact, and it just makes me so proud,” Khan said.
