The UK has already introduced laws to try to protect children
\nonline.<\/p>\n

Foremost is the Online Safety Act – laws and duties online
\nplatforms must follow – implemented and enforced by media regulator Ofcom.<\/p>\n

The act requires firms to remove illegal content, including child sexual abuse, controlling or coercive behaviour or promoting
\nsuicide or self-harm.<\/p>\n

It has also created offences to make sending unsolicited sexual
\nimagery – known as cyber-flashing – and sharing “deepfake”
\npornography, creating using AI, illegal.<\/p>\n

Under Ofcom\u2019s Protection of Children Codes, companies must also
\nprevent children from being exposed to harmful content relating to suicide,
\nself-harm, eating disorders and pornography. The regulator has already fined
\nsome firms for not complying with these requirements. <\/p>\n

Earlier this year the government also banned so-called
\nnudification apps.<\/p>\n

But child safety campaigners have urged the government to go
\nfurther to stop children seeing or sharing nude images, amid concerns about
\nonline grooming and sextortion.<\/p>\n
