HARRISBURG, DAUPHIN CO. (WOLF) \u2014 <\/span>Pennsylvania lawmakers have approved two measures designed to help protect residents from the growing risks associated with artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n

Attorney General Dave Sunday on Wednesday praised action taken by both the Pennsylvania House and Senate on legislation intended to improve public awareness of AI-related scams and strengthen protections for children online.<\/p>\n

The Pennsylvania House voted 198-3 to approve House Bill 2314, which would provide funding for a statewide public education campaign focused on artificial intelligence and consumer safety.<\/p>\n

According to Sunday’s office, the initiative would help educate Pennsylvanians about AI-related scams, identity theft risks and online safety, while also providing parents with resources to better protect children from emerging technology threats.<\/p>\n

“The most effective way to prevent scams and ID theft is to be aware of today’s technology and how it can cause harm,” Sunday said in a statement.<\/p>\n

The bill now moves to the Pennsylvania Senate for consideration.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Senate approved Senate Resolution 244, creating a Child Protection in the Digital Age Task Force that will be led by the Office of Attorney General.<\/p>\n

The task force will examine how rapidly changing technology is affecting children and whether existing laws adequately address new digital threats.<\/p>\n

“Ensuring our laws protecting children keep pace with the rapid changes in technology is a mission critical to the Office of Attorney General,” Sunday said.<\/p>\n

The attorney general’s office has recently increased its focus on artificial intelligence and online safety issues, including participation in a multistate effort examining AI chatbots and their interactions with young users.<\/p>\n

Sunday’s office has also conducted public outreach programs focused on social media and digital safety through its Office of Public Engagement.<\/p>\n
