The Taiwanese assembly experts at Foxconn have taken the wraps off the Cavira, a new Tesla Model Y competitor that offers a 468 hp AWD powertrain, sub-four-second 0-60 mph performance, and up to 359 miles of range.<\/p>\n

If it feels like we\u2019ve been writing about Foxconn\u2019s plans to launch an electric car brand of their own for years, that\u2019s because we have. Along the way, the company has been linked to startups like Fisker, Lordstown, and even Apple as a credibility-enhancing partner to help fuel those brands\u2019 once global automotive ambitions.<\/p>\n

Now, however, Foxconn is building cars under its own \u201cFoxtron\u201d brand (one the company\u2019s numerous JVs, along with Taiwan\u2019s Yulon Motor), and its first mainstream crossover is every bit as credible as you\u2019d expect.<\/p>\n

A surface-level glance at the Foxtron Cavira (or, pictures of it, anyway) reveals a conventionally styled midsize crossover that maintains the Foxtron family look established by the compact Bria rolled out last year.<\/p>\n

Inside, the Cavira ticks all the standard \u201cI\u2019m an EV!\u201d styling boxes, including minimal buttons, a digital instrument cluster behind the steering wheel, and a giant 15.4\u2033 center touchscreen that give off enough of a smartphone or tablet vibe to remind you that Foxconn made its money in the consumer electronics space.<\/p>\n

Dimensionally, the Cavira is 195.4\u2033 (4,695 mm) long and rides on a 114.9\u2033 (2,920 mm) wheelbase, making it slightly longer than a Ford Mustang Mach-E or Chevy Blazer EV.<\/p>\n

The Cavira will be offered in two trims \u2013 the Emerge Long-Range Edition with a single, rear-mounted, 186 kW (~249 hp) electric motor with up to 359 miles, and the Pioneer Long-Range Performance Edition with two electric motors making 349 kW (~468 hp). Range for the two-motor variant drops range to \u201cjust\u201d 538 km, but rockets you and your friends from 0 to 60…<\/p>\n
