Current frontier models, such as Claude Mythos and OpenAI GPT 5.5, when equipped with proper tooling, now possess cybersecurity skills comparable to those of trained human practitioners, and their ability is doubling every four months. Although access to these frontier models has been limited, independent researchers have discovered that open weight models, which are freely available, can achieve similar results.<\/p>\n<p>It has long been understood that software and firmware frequently contain bugs, some of which create security vulnerabilities. Artificial intelligence tools can now be used to rapidly locate and exploit these weaknesses. On the positive side, defenders can also leverage this capability. Companies that develop software and firmware are increasingly employing AI to accelerate the identification and remediation of vulnerabilities within their own code.<\/p>\n<p>Within a few years, it may be possible to achieve a significantly higher level of security with more robust software and firmware.
