NCSC Urges Immediate Action to Boost Resilience as Uncertainty Persist<\/a><\/p>\n

Security teams must improve collaboration and enhance cyber resilience if they are to survive in an increasingly\u00a0volatile world, one of the UK\u2019s leading cybersecurity agencies has warned.<\/p>\n

Speaking at Infosecurity Europe on June 2, National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) director of operations, Paul Chichester, shared his vision of the threat landscape, and what organizations must do to manage risk at a time of tremendous change.<\/p>\n

Despite having observed the \u201carc of cybersecurity\u201d for over three decades, Chichester admitted \u201cnow is perhaps the first time I\u2019m not sure \u2018where next?\u2019.\u201d That\u2019s down to a confluence of technological change, geopolitical uncertainty, and threat landscape evolution.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt feels like there are a lot of dice and a lot of variables and we\u2019re not predicting anything very well these days,\u201d he admitted. \u201cProfessionally, things are harder than they\u2019ve ever been.\u201d<\/p>\n

Chichester\u2019s words came as new data released by\u00a0ManageEngine revealed that 77% of British organizations suffered a cyber incident over the past year, 11% above the European average.<\/p>\n

The Lay of the Threat Landscape<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Chichester described several other areas of concern which infosecurity professionals will be familiar with, but need to address.<\/p>\n

They included hyper connectivity \u2013 which he claimed was growing at such a rate that it\u2019s increasingly difficult for defenders to track and manage across the entire IT estate.<\/p>\n

Another is the pace of tech transformation, which Chichester said will drive huge \u201csocietal and civilizational changes\u201d and create yet more \u201cvast amounts of uncertainty.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s quite a lonely place to be as a technology and security professional because we\u2019re trying to slow things down,\u201d he added. \u201cAs technologists, that\u2019s not what we want.\u201d<\/p>\n
